Good Samaritans Pull Woman Trapped Inside Overturned Car In Westchester

Two Good Samaritans are being hailed as heroes after rushing to pull an unconscious woman who was trapped inside an overturned vehicle engulfed in flames on the Taconic State Parkway near the Northern Westchester/Putnam border on Thursday.

The crash occurred around 3 a.m. near exit 14 (Baldwin Road) in Yorktown.

Brian Geary, 30, of East Fishkill and another unknown passerby stopped to assist 56-year-old Linda Gironda prior to the arrival of emergency services. Gironda's vehicle had overturned after hit a rock wall and caught fire with her trapped inside.

With the vehicle locked and Gironda unconscious, Geary used a baseball bat from his vehicle to smash the windshield. Geary and the unknown passerby then pulled Gironda to safety.

Yorktown Fire Department arrived on scene, and extinguished the fire. Gironda was transported to Westchester Medical Center by Yorktown EMS with serious injuries.
